I WALK THE LINE

So for the last few days I’ve been nursing a bum shoulder. It’s HORRIBLE! I haven’t been able to go to my power yoga classes and wasn’t sure until today if I could work out at all. I know, yap, yap, yap, it sounds like senseless complaining, but working out keeps me sane. I don’t even consider it exercise. I think human beings are not meant to be sedentary–I for one get crabby/bitchy/sleepy/dyslexic when I don’t do something with my body. Grrrrrrrrrrrr. Anyhoo, my doctor told me that it’s likely sprained and that I should counteract it with swimming (whoopee!) and weights (blah).

ARITZIA SALE & GIVEAWAY!! –ENDED–

March 30th, 2010 - 156 Comments »
screen-shot-2010-03-30-at-2-47-08-pm

One of the most time-honored shopping traditions among Vancouverites is the bi-annual Aritzia warehouse sale. When I say tradition, I do not mince words as I have been loyally waiting in line and fighting my way through rows and rows of discounted goodies since my tweens. We don’t often get good warehouse sales here in Vancouver (not like in Manhattan, where they literally sprout up like weeds), so it’s no wonder that lines curl around street blocks and people get a little….how can I say?…….shopping hysteric? For hours and location click here!

To add to the hysteria of this epic sale starting mid week, The Haute Pursuit has teamed up with Aritzia to give away two $200 dollar gift certificates to two lucky readers. And a little hint: if you want to double your chances of winning, become a fan of Aritzia on twitter and Facebook <wink wink>. Good luck!

*CONTEST IS ONLY OPEN TO CANADIAN READERS & WILL END ON APRIL 4TH MIDNIGHT*

To enter, simply leave your email address that I can reach you at! xx

H&M GARDEN COLLECTION

So after going to an AM yoga class on Saturday, I decided to blow some time by wandering around the mall. I’ve actually been pretty lucky with NOT buying anything new of late. Blame this on my penny-pinching new lease on life or the sad fact that there is nothing covetable in stores. I had seen the H&M Garden ads all over the net and on the streets, but was never compelled to check it out in person. However when I chanced upon this jacket covered in delicate rosettes, in the most amazing red, and decked out with Balmain-worthy shoulders I didn’t even think TWICE about purchasing it. In fact, I think it’s one of the stand out pieces of the entire collection. People seem to be going crazy for the dress (in the same fabric) and other colorful floral frocks, but they don’t really do it for me. (then again I’m not really a flowery/pretty type to begin with).

PUFF THE MAGIC DRAGON

My immediate thought upon finding this 1990’s purple relic was ‘OMFG how awesome!’ followed quickly by self doubt which sounded like: ‘man i’m going to look like Grimace or Barney walking down the block in this monstrosity’. BUT as I have learned over the years, self doubt and little bit of fear are the EXACT reasons to buy something. I know, it sounds counter-intuitive, but if I had listened to the ‘reasoning’ side of my brain, I’d be wearing blue jeans and tshirts all the time. I think it’s exciting to step outside of yourself and try new things. So what if it’s a little weird or scary? It’s FUN!

DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE

I am donning my homemade turban again, attempting to channel Axl Rose circa 1990 when he was rocking the red bandana like white trash, rock n roll royalty. Or wait….I think he’s still rocking that look right? Minor detail. And yes, another smiling photo! This was also by accident–I was being daft and not walking smart in my 6-plus inch platforms and almost tripped up a set of stairs. Not a very classy moment but at least a funny photo came out of it!

BEAUTIFUL RAPTURE

Under an eerily pink glowing canopy of freshly bloomed cherry blossoms, Dan and I descended upon our flower inspired shoot for a guest blog post for Revolve Clothing. I think one of the most beautiful times in Vancouver is right when the city is on the eve of full-blown spring. The sun shines a little harder and there seems to be a new skip in everyone’s step. I just want to sit outside all day and let the sun numb my brain and bring that oh-so-desirable glow back to my complexion. But alas, work has to be done and the sun will have to wait!

WHAT I WORE

Remember when Cher in Clueless photographed all her own outfits and uploaded them onto her computer? I thought how fucking cool. I wish I had polaroids of all my clothes!!! I love this RVCA dress I got last year. I cut it way too short in the back, which makes it semi-unwearable, but it just makes me smile whenever I wear it. I love my super tiny camera. It’s much more accommodating than my Nikon D90 that weighs a ton in comparison. Happy Thursday!

WORK HARD, PARTY HARDER

Ok, I don’t know why, but this picture is amusing me to no end. I really don’t wear my Emma Cook boots enough–so they are practically brand new. I guess I’ve just always been too afraid to dirty them up, because well let’s face it, I have a knack for destroying pretty things before their time. I think a few of you have left me reprimanding comments about leaving my precious Stam bag on the cement in scuzzy alleys and gasoline soaked pump stations. My reasoning is, if I’m going to pay $1500 dollars for a bag, I’m going to toss it around anywhere I want! Hahah, but no…thank you for the concern…someone’s gotta keep me in line right?

BEAUTIFUL WASTELAND

Iona beach is typical back country juxtaposed against a brilliant and awe-inducing sky and sea-line. It’s a place of contrast. Just 5 minutes away is a sewage processing plant filtering through all the waste in Richmond. On the beach, all you can see is water as far as the eye can discern.  You kinda just stand there…in the warmth of the sunshine and drink your surroundings up. The smell of the ocean, the sound of the tide creeping close to your feet and then quickly receding, the distant forms of birds on the horizon pecking at their meals, and the chilly breeze that icily caresses your face and hair as you walk. This is paradise in a nutshell. A beautiful wasteland that is a place full of contrast.

DUSTY BLUES, CUT OUTS AND FUR!

Some more stuff that I’ve added to my growing collection of store photos. It’s official: I’m moving servers because my pictures + traffic + general interactions on the blog are quickly getting too fat for the current provider. I’ve been feeling so restless lately. Everything feels like it’s taking an eternity to get up and running. It’s driving me MAD! Sometimes when you’re in this blogging bubble, you lose perspective of a lot of the things you’ve already accomplished. People often tell me this, but all I can think about is the next project, the next step, the next goal. Maybe I’m just a little kooky that way.
