Some more stuff that I’ve added to my growing collection of store photos. It’s official: I’m moving servers because my pictures + traffic + general interactions on the blog are quickly getting too fat for the current provider. I’ve been feeling so restless lately. Everything feels like it’s taking an eternity to get up and running. It’s driving me MAD! Sometimes when you’re in this blogging bubble, you lose perspective of a lot of the things you’ve already accomplished. People often tell me this, but all I can think about is the next project, the next step, the next goal. Maybe I’m just a little kooky that way.

As many of you already know, I have a strange penchant for anything that is leopard print. I don’t know what it is. The feline just calls out to me. One day, I’m going to be that crazy grandma, wearing a leopard track suit and a leather fanny pack. CAN’T WAIT!

It’s been a while since Dan and I got together to shoot something. Everyone has just been busy, busy, busy. Speaking of which, my room has become a makeshift studio. I’ve draped a huge sheet of white paper over my closet and cleared almost everything out to make room to shoot store stuff. I want to reiterate that I have so much respect for those bloggers that shoot themselves with a tripod. There’s a lot of running around, a lot of test and error, and double the amount of effort.

What do you guys think of my skirt? I think I’m going to retire this to my shop as well. It kinda just jumped out at me when I was rifling through the racks at my nearby thrift store. I think any time you have something super garish you gotta pair it with something basic. This is a great ‘lazy’ outfit because a) the skirt is elasticized b) both cardigan and tank top are deliciously loose and c) the hair bun is totally non-fuss.

Ok, I’m promising you now that not all my posts are going to be restricted to store photos, but really this is all I’m doing at the moment! Dan is off working on an upcoming movie and will be back tonight. I think we’re getting together on Sunday to do some cool stuff at his house, so I guess no full length shots til then? It’s Friday night and I’m work-work-working. Strangely it doesn’t feel that odd. I have a feeling this will be my weekend for a lot of upcoming weekends so I better get used to it right? Hope everyone is having fun tonight on my behalf!

So yeah. I’ve been lazy. Way more lazy than I’d like to confess. I’ve spent the last two weeks eating/breathing/living the Olympics. I was either planted on my couch watching hockey or downtown with friends. But alas, the Olympic fever has subsided and now it’s time to get my ass into gear. Today I dusted off my tripod and started taking pics for my store. Let me tell yah, this is hard stuff! Like what to photograph, what not to photograph. How to describe the items etc. Hopefully everything will come together as planned and all these clothes will find new homes!

So here it is, the milkmaid braids DIY that I promised about 2 weeks ago. I think after you watch this you’ll realize how easy it is to achieve this look and how much freedom you have to do what you please Hope you guys enjoy this and let me know if you have any questions!!!!

So I had to google what type of necktie this was and apparently it’s something similar to a colonel necktie. I’ve had random pieces of elastic kicking around my sewing box for ages now. I inherited it from my grandmother who went through a phase where she elasticized everything from trousers to skirts. Anyhoo, I felt inspired by the high collars at Proenza Schouler and thought why not tie it up with an ode to Karl and pin it with a random earring I found at the thrift store? the result: a new looking chambray shirt!

Dan and I shot these pictures around his neighborhood where we were caught in the middle of an organized mob protesting against the olympics. Some stink eye hippie girl scowled at me and asked ‘do you really wear that?’. Um…yeah. I had to bite my tongue and not ask her an equally rhetorical question like: when was the last time you washed your hair? or do you really wear those mom-shaped corduroy pants in public? The gumption of some people really irritates me sometimes!

When I look at these pictures again, I kinda remind myself of a rich European school boy (minus the leather pants). Or maybe Madeleine with that cute little straw hat. I’ve worn this shirt low and unbottoned for so long now that it’s really refreshing to button it all the way up without fearing that my right boob is going to pop out. I think this may be a turn of tides for me. I feel an androgynous wave coming……

And here’s a funny picture of me. I laugh like an imbecile. It’s infectious really. Once I start laughing it turns into a drawn out giggle/cackle that I can only liken to Mr Burns when he does something deliciously evil on The Simpsons. Hot.

So continuing the trend I started last week, I’m keeping my hair in milk maid braids because it’s easy and way cooler than a bun or pony tail. When I took the bus to meet Dan at Oakridge, I got my share of side ways glances on the bus. I always get asked ‘does that bother you? that you dress so weird sometimes?’ and the answer is hell no. I think in a world where we often lose ourselves in the crowd, it’s so important to hold onto your individuality!

And it’s official. I’m totally obsessed with this Revlon lipstick. It’s kinda goth, it’s kinda witchy, it’s totally awesome. I definitely was late on jumping onto the lipstick bandwagon because I never thought they looked good on me, but of late I swear I must have hit a lipstick jackpot! Reds, purples, nudes…..the world is my oyster.

And I just realized while looking at these aerial views of my head that my hair almost looks like intestines or something bowel-like. Don’t tell me it’s just me! As I mentioned on twitter earlier, I did a video today of how to achieve the same look, but it’s much harder said then done! Anyhoo, I think I’m going to have to scrap what I filmed and have to rethink how I’m going to do the tutorial. Maybe I should check out some on youtube and pick up some tips?

I bought this lipstick ages ago with aspirations of wearing it with all white dresses and outfits, but never really got around to it. I remember the first time my sister saw me wear it she kinda jumped back in fear/shock/revulsion. Anyways, shock value aside, I really really love this Revlon lipstick! It’s kinda sheer so I have to layer on 3-4 layers, but it’s totally wearable as an every day shade if just slicked on once. Speaking of white dresses, wouldn’t my hair and lipstick look AMAZING with one of those Rodarte ghost bride gowns? Even thinking of them again are giving me deep chills down my spine <shudder>.

I should probably shoot this outside with stockings or something because it’s really what I am feeling right now. I’ve been wearing my hair like this way too much. It’s so easy and whimsical!

God it feels like forever since Dan and I went out to shoot pictures!!! It’s very sweet that some of you have tweeted and emailed me for updates on my blog. NBC is still monopolizing most of Dan’s time, but it’s all cool because it’s for the Olympics (woo go Canada!). I feel like after so long of not taking pictures outside, I just have this bottle neck of outfit ideas that I’ve had to write down lest they get eaten up by the black hole that I call my atrocious memory. Thus far, I’ve accumulated 4, 5 pages of notes, so I’ve been productive!

I’ve been pondering lately about my hair. I really want to do something to it, but not sure what. I’ve pretty much done everything to my hair. I’ve been blond (yes you read right), black, and the dark brown I am now. I’ve donned the thick Susie Bubble esque blunt bangs, the side sweep, the bob, and now my default lazy hair. I’m thinking of cutting it right above my shoulders a la Chloe Sevigny’s new do…or even something shorter and messier like Alexa Chung’s. The problem is: I have super straight hair (yes I know ‘cry me a river Vanessa’) that is incapable of looking ‘messy’ or bed-heady. What to do, what to do??

Aren’t these pants brilliant??? I found them in a second hand store in Kerrisdale when they practically called out to me like a beacon of awesome-ness in a rack full of rubble. Unlike my two other pairs of vintage leather pants, these ACTUALLY FIT! perfect cropped length, a textured waist (do I see Leopard???), and snaps in the back that cinch in to <gasp> give me a semi-womanly figure! The snaps actually popped a few times when I was coming in and out of Dan’s car and I immediately thought of Snoop Dogg’s song ‘Pop it Like it’s hot’.

Store update: I’ve priced and created an inventory list of the items I plan to sell. My web designer says the store is basically up and running. It just needs to be populated. Woo eeeee!

More pictures that I took with @cmasonstearns! This is one of my favorite dresses in my closet and surprise surprise it’s from H&M! I had the hem taken up as well as the sides because it was a little too puffy for my liking. There’s nothing that says sexy more than a big black hairy puffy dress. Mwah! Sorry for the lack of updates. As some of you may have read on twitter, Dan is working for NBC during the Olympics and is practically working every day. Lucky for me, NBC is giving Dan a day off on Tuesday so we’ll be able to shoot something fun then. Happy Chinese New Years!!! Is anyone a tiger out there?
