FLEA-ING IN BROOKLYN
So yesterday I went to Brooklyn to go flea-marketing under the Manhattan Bridge. Lucky for me, this Sunday was a little different than those in the past because they decided to incorporate music in the form of tables upon tables of vinyl! So much fun. I must say, I’ve become a huge treasure hunter as of late, and it just exhilerates me to no end when I’m surrounded by racks of well selected vintage duds. There were a lot of sequined jackets and furs, pirate and grannie boots, and in my favorite vendors’ makeshift stores: great designer vintage! I wasn’t able to take as many photos as I would have liked because there were a shit load of people there. I definitely saw my share of YSL, CHANEL, and even some Japanese designers–who knew!
This dress was one of the first things I saw- I immediately fell in love with it. There were pearls all over the collar radiating down the dress in the most delicate and precarious pattern. It had shoulder pads too which I’m also infatuated with at the moment. And the wrists!!! I die.
More sequins!!!
There were a lot of really beautiful Victorian lingerie-y pieces at the market…couldn’t bring myself to buy this delectable top even though I really hearted it….I would have enjoyed prancing around in this very much….sigh….
This scarf that is slung over the suitcase is something else that I got. I seriously stalked back in between the tents and the train station for a good 30 minutes trying to decide whether or not I should buy it. In the end I gave in to my furry vice and paid the lady. It’s really beautiful in a messy sorta way. The white bits that you see are actually cut off from the main part of the brown fur and just gives it this really cool 3D effect that makes it a little more special….and for some reason when I first saw it, it totally reminded me of Erin Wasson….my love for her runs deep….
Oh and the blue snuffaluffagus jacket. It was like a beacon of light in the midst of blacks, browns, and whites. The color and fluff factor on this coat is outta this world! If I had tons of money to blow I would have totally dropped $175 for this….because well I’m obsessed with fur.
And as mentioned…here is one designer dud that I saw early on my adventure. I was very impressed with the quality and price…and the fact that anyone can wear it now and look hot as hell!
And these 6+ inch Miss Goody Two Shoe platforms are probably one of my favorite things I’ve gotten so far on this trip. The vendor told me that the brand’s claim to fame in the 70′s was having the highest shoes made during that decade…..or at least sold commercially to the masses. As soon as I saw them I recognized that they would be the right size and boy are they TALL! I definitely feel like a giant in these. The comfort level is not bad…but then again I haven’t really ‘walked’ in them yet. I can’t wait to show these to my Mom…because she always gives me a ‘pshaaawwww’ when I show her my heels.
….just a side view of the vendors…..so long!!!!
