…is the only way I can describe this outfit. Remember Aliyah and all her ridiculously hot midriff baring crop-top-baggy pant combos? And maybe lesser so J-Lo circa early 2000’s when she was still with P.Diddy and rocking a doo rag (DON’T HATE). Well, this is me trying to channel that same hip-hop, high street mix that’s always been an influence on my style. If you need musical reference, just listen to Fashion Killa by A$AP Rocky. Seriously, go listen to that now. And then fall in love with Rocky.
More pics of my Day 2 NYFW outfit after the jump!
Can I say how much I love this Zara knit top? Versatile enough to be worn during the day, but also appropriate for night. It’s also incentive to get those extra crunches and core squeezes in, cuz you ‘ain’t hiding nothing in that honey!’ as a stranger colorfully reminded me while walking past.
I also fell madly in love with this neighborhood that we stayed in during NYFW. Chinatown bordering LES. It was an interesting mix of people who’ve been in this hood forever (the local Chinese community) and newer residents (torn from Hipster cloth). To me, this cultural variety is the reason why I love NYC so much. More than the food, more than the shopping, more than the sights. It’s these small pockets of communities where all sorts of people, ideas, and beliefs are thrown into a proverbial mixer to become something bigger and better than its individual parts. ‘IT’S A SWIRL BABY, AIN’T NO VANILLA HERE!’ as my friend Quan always reminds me.
More NYFW outfits will be posted throughout this week and the following, so make sure you’re on it!
