HOLESOME
Ok, so this sweater is a result of a series of accidents and miscalculations. When I first received this in the mail with several other carefully picked goodies, I thought ‘hmmm….looks too small….gotta make it looser’. So in an attempt to stretch out the neck I almost tore off the collar. Heh. Next taking a few more precautions I removed a draw string from the hem and almost tore the bottom apart. Note to self: be more delicate with holey items.
My last few posts have been shot by my new friend Peter who’s about to shoot a doc up in the interior about tree planting. I like talking to him about New York–he just came back home after 4 years at Parsons. Makes me feel like I’m still sorta there in spirit. I miss it so much!!!
Aren’t these pictures so surreal?? They are very Rumi-esque. I can’t get over how beautiful it was on Sunday when we went to Richmond to check out this beach. Normally, I hate going to Richmond because traffic sucks and people don’t know how to drive there, but I’m totally glad Peter showed me this place. We were joking about how the skyline was the sorta image you’d see in a Holiday Inn suite with maybe the title ‘Beautiful BC’ under it. Another high light of the night was going to a pilot bar kinda in the middle of nowhere to get beaver tails (OMFG so delicious–potato skins topped with bacon, cheese, onions and sour cream–MMM) and beer. Loved the novelty of it. Must go back.
It’s getting way too cold wear holey sweaters like this. My ears felt like they had frozen from the inside out–does that even make sense?? I need a new winter coat. I had a rather traumatic experience last year with an almost $500 dollar jacket I got from Artiza (namely the buttons popped off every time I wore it), so I think I’m going to go dumpster diving this year and do the second hand route.
Wearing The Scarlet Room sweater, Silence + Noise leather pants, Christopher Kane for TOPSHOP bag, Sam Edelman booties, Made Her Think Talon ring

You look great and yes you remind me of Rumi. I like how the sweater turned out. It looks very natural. It is probably better than the original piece.

love this look, vanessa!
haha you came out to richmond! thats where i live. i try to avoid spending time there at all costs, unless it’s a nice day and i hang out by the dyke. did you go to the flying beaver? you wear the zoe’s so well…my luck was gold yesterday and nastygal had a size 8 so i gave in and bought a pair. i won’t regret spending that obscene amount of money on a pair of shoes…right?!

Hey! Yeah…I lived in Richmond when I was in Grade 3-4 or something and def felt the suburbia bubble vibe even then. Didn’t like it much.
Yeah we went to the Flying Beaver. it was…interesting. Different. I liked it a lot though. Old pilots and their gf’s.
So glad you got the boots! I love mine. i wear them all the time. Default shoes.

B,
Yes I agree. The sweater looked a little too ‘perfect’ before I ripped it apart. It looks like an individual piece now.

Yes I freaking love the Flying Beaver…my first time and def not the last. I love all the hangars around it. My friend and I were thinking of possibly walking into one but security was too tight. Yeah the sky in the last few pix was REDICK!

I’ve always admired Rumi’s beachy/californ-I-A pics and finally was able to make my way down to a beach here. The results were pretty nice.

Vanessa, that’s practically my backyard where I grew up! I can’t believe you went to the flying beaver hahahaha.
But the dyke is beautiful and I like your outfit in contrast with the wetland. (Remember wetlands are an endangered ecosystem?! CONS=FUN)

Alanna!
I didn’t know that. In fact the whole CONS era is a complete blur to me. I just remember sitting next to you, Eric and Sarah. Remember how Chris didn’t sit with us because he was too big of a keener??? And he didn’t even get an A in that class! Not even cloooose….

Actually, that Made Her Think ring is the Diamond Pendulum ring. The Talon ring is the crystal-studded knucklebuster that covers two fingers.
by Vanessa
On October 10, 2009 at 12:34 am
Ah….I just call it that because it kinda looks like one…but I guess b/c it’s faceted a Diamond description would be better. Whoops!

wow.
can i first say how much i love love love the pictures of the sun glaring by your face…they are stunning. By far my favorites.
as fot the collar of the sweater… its even better deconstructed in such a way wear the collar adds so much more off the should detail as a strap. I love DIY’s
keep up the post and i will keep coming back.
such inspiration
