I THINK I’M SHEDDING
October 12th, 2009 - 23 Comments »
Me:Omg, I think my dress is shedding!! Peter: What do you mean? Me: look at all this white fluff everywhere! Peter: Is it that time of year again? Me: <stumped in witty banter>
Chinatown. Has anyone been down there recently? It’s eerily quiet now –even devoid of the ubiquitous bums and crackheads that used to litter the streets. I think ever since the city of Vancouver took the initiative to clean up it up it’s become a sort of ghost town. The only thing I can liken it to is like giving electric shock treatment to a brilliant mental patient. Remember Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest? Chinatown is JACK! The frenetic energy, the colorful people, and the smells and sounds all made Chinatown CRAZY but honest in a grimey sorta way.
I remember when I was growing up I would always head down to Chinatown to pick up noodles, meat, and choy with my grandma. I always tell people that my memory is shit, but oddly enough I remember those experiences like they were just yesterday: the overwhelming aroma of the Chinese medicine shops, the screaming fish shop owners, and the constantly wet cobblestone streets that made it treacherous to walk in busy crowds. NY’s Chinatown reminded me a lot of the Chinatown we used to have here….made me feel nostalgic…
After wandering around aimlessly looking for cool lights, Peter and I went to Phnom Penh and ate some deep fried frog legs and noodles. For you Vancouverites that have never gone, GO RIGHT NOW! Anthony Bourdain was there recently filming his No Reservations show. I love that man–you can quote me on that. I think right behind fashion and reading, my other great passion is FOOD. I’m a glutton and damn proud of it! If I could travel around the world like Anthony and eat out of the most obscure alleyways and shoe-box restaurants I would be beyond content. In fact I would be in heaven. Foodie heaven.
I love my new dress. It’s furry and humongous. I cut about 4 inches off the hem because it was too long. I felt like a bit of an oddity stomping through Chinatown in an almost-carpet like ensemble. I wasn’t cold ONCE the entire night. Utility AND cool factor off the roof ? Can’t get any better than that people….
To my fellow Canadians: HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Wearing H&M furry dress, Sam Edelman shoes, Stam Marc Jacobs bag

luv this soo much!!!!!! Hope u have a lovely day! xxx
I laughed at what your friend said about your dress. My bf does that a lot to me so I’m def always at a loss for words whenever he rags on me. I just came home from my break and I had some damn good home cooked food. A bit disappointed now that I have to cook crappy food myself XD I just bought an AWang dress online and I finally got to open the mail yesterday when I came back to campus. I was a bit disappointed since the temperature dropped like crazy this past weekend. Lol I’m hoping I can put it on before it gets freakin cold too.
I adore your dress! Its so strange cos all of a sudden i cant get enough of fluffy jumpers…this dress tops them all!

Barbo,
Hey yeah it’s kinda like a garage door. Everyone in Chinatown has gates to close off the store to ward off vandilism….I love eerie neon lights! Gritty.

Phoebe!
I love fluff/fur anything that’s really textural. My closet is running out space due to all the furry things I’ve collected for fall so far. I need to vacuum pack that shit up!!!

Donna,
Sweeeeet what A. Wang dress??? I always want one from every season but have not taken the plunge thus far…..

That dress is really cute! And it looks sooo comfortable, like big fuzzy socks, probably because I’m freezing right now.
simply amazing……
Ahh, my BF is obsessed with Anthony Bourdain! He makes me watch too many food shows on the travel channel, he is such a foodie. If we ever end up in Vancouver I’m sure he’ll want to go to that restaurant!
Also, your dress is fantastic! H&M, really? I need to go there more often!

mmmmm i love phnom penh, have never tried the frog legs though, love the chicken wings!
Sylvia,
OMG, the frog legs are sooooo good! Beyond the novelty, they are actually really tasty. The legs taste like chicken–but better. The torso tastes kinda like fish. It’s hard to describe. They’re just good, get them next time!

Oooh, I love this, it really works!!!
Had you told me or shown me on a runway model, I would have thought of it as a totally unwearable piece, but it surprisingly isn’t!!!
And you look so cute in it too!
xoxo
Aww thanks Tina!
Of late I’ve been picking up weird stuff left and right.
It’s actually one of the more practical dresses I own! it’s got long sleeves and a furry shell that can keep me warm on these chilly Autumn nights!

I almost bought that dress, and now, seeing it on you – wished I had! I didn’t have time to try it on, but it really does look incredible. Hello, one of my new favorite bloggers!
Feelmore,
Honey go buy the dress! I first saw the sweater version and thought “MAN wouldn’t it be awesome if there was a dress version??” Then i found it around the corner in the store and almost died. I love it immensely. I’m contemplating putting shoulder pads in it to make it more of a monstrosity.
It definitely ‘puffs’ you up. I should have called this post Power Puff Girl.
