Mini Escape

After the strange year that most of us have had, I decided to bring in the New Year in Europe away from it all. We decided on Marseille because Paris was surprisingly cold…and dark. Very dark. Marseille is a ¬†convenient 3 hours away via train, which made the whole thing super easy. For those of you who haven’t gone before, you MUST go. I kept on thinking to myself: ‘I cannot believe it’s taken me this long to get here!’. Some of my favorites of the trip were MuCEM (a contemporary museum floating like an island on the Mediterranean sea), anything Le Corbusier (he has deep roots in Marseille), and Friche

La Belle de Mai (a culture/art collective set up in a former tobacco factory, where they apparently have raves on the weekends). Something I also noticed about Marseille is that the ‘lines’ between posh and low-income neighborhoods were a little ‘smudgy’ – meaning affluent households were literally next door to poor ones – something I read was an effort made by the government in the 70s to encourage socioeconomic ‘mixing’. Whatever the intention, I think that’s what makes the city so unique. I fell in love, and will definitely come back in the summer; rent a little bungalow by the water and swim in the Mediterranean.

La Bonne Mere (situated in center of frame) looking over the city of Marseille. I found that to be beautiful.

Bonjour!

Lastly, merci Le Pigalle for hosting me in Paris – it was short, but sweet!
