RODARTE FOR TARGET
I think this is my favorite piece from the Rodarte for Target capsule collection. Maybe it’s because I have a weak spot for leopard print or mini dresses, but I’m desperately in love with this dress and want to wear it over and over again. I had heard some mixed reviews concerning the quality of the items, but let’s be honest here people. For 1/10th the price, you are getting exactly what you pay for. I think everything is playful, coquettish, and devilishly pretty. I also got the silk crepe dress in black and mustard–never have I felt so much like princess in my life!!! Will post those and other Rodarte items later on
Obviously I’m smitten!
Whoa….so it looks like 2009 has come to an end huh? I don’t like to measure my accomplishments by yearly basis, but this year has been pretty remarkable. A lot of shit has happened this year. First I started my blog on my 25th birthday, then my almost 4 year boyfriend and I mutually agreed to part ways, and most recently I left my job. Do I believe that things happen for a reason? No. I don’t like that school of thought. I believe in serendipity. I’ll admit now that at the beginning of 2009, I felt restless and a little lost…and well a bit sad. I was working in a company that offered me all the opportunities someone my age would jump at. My colleagues were young and cool; even my manager was a friend! But at the back of my mind I felt trapped…doomed almost. Doomed to walk down a path that I never intended for myself…like getting sucked into a professional black hole. Then I started this blog and people actually read it! It motivated me to make it better….to take the next step…then I thought of a store.
So I guess what I’m trying to say is that don’t rush to figure your life out. I think there’s a lot of pressure on us to start our careers as soon as we leave university. I did that…and look where I am now! Don’t feel trapped by your circumstances because there is always a way out. You just gotta muster some gumption, blind faith and fucking jump!
Thankfully for me, my passion found me in the form of a funny little blog called The Haute Pursuit. I guess we are all in hot pursuit of something. A dream. A boy. A job. Now I know what I’m chasing after, I don’t feel so lost anymore. I really do love all of you and appreciate you guys like crazy!!! Without readership….who knows where’d my little hobby be today?
Ooooh so on that note…because I’ve picked up some more followers of late, I think I’m going to answer any questions you guys have for me…..the two most common ones I’ve gotten thus far include: 1. How tall are you? Me: 5’6″ (but I wish I was 5’8″) 2. What is your descent? My father is Chinese Canadian, my mother is from Hong Kong. Please leave it in the comment box or shoot me a quick email!!!
Oh and how FUCKING awesome are these Mendel boots? hehe. Interesting that they named these after the father of genetic inheritance. Another fun fact (you won’t get this unless you have some sorta biology background, so my apologies), but I came *this* close to going as a Punnett Square to a costume party. I thought I was pretty cool in University. Heh.

This is such an inspiring post! I feel completely lost right now, as I’ve recently graduated college and have no idea what to do. It’s so great to hear that you were once where I currently am, and everything has worked out so wonderfully for you! Hope you have an amazing new year! And also, those shoes are *amazing*!

Tingting,
I was working in a cutting edge biotech company. What they are doing is going to change many lives in the future. Without going into too much detail, it was related to stem cell research. Um…initially there was a lot of negative/confused reaction to what I was going to do. I think this is a common problem faced by entrepreneurs….people just not ‘getting it’. My parents are as fine as they can be about it. My Dad is totally cool, but my Mom is a little torn. She wants me to pursue my dreams in fashion while working but hey that ain’t going to happen! I was really unhappy for a long time (and yes, sad!) and was sick of complaining. So I decided to change the course of my life…..and here I am! I’m a little scared, but more excited about everything

so many things to say about this post – firstly, i totally agree about the rodarte quality argument. OBVIOUSLY the quality of the garment is not going to be on the same level as normal rodarte apparel…or it would be $4,000, not $40. getting designer level quality at $40 wouldn’t be a sale, it would be stealing! hah. and that leopard dress looks gorgeous on you. secondly, congratulations to you for pursuing your dreams and having the courage to break out of the safe and “known” into the unknown! i hope i will have as much courage as you when i start pursuing my career goals. i hope 2010 brings you lots of happiness and success!

Jealous!
There is no Target in Norway (Boo! Hiss!), and collections like these makes me wish there was… or that I was back in the US. (I lived there for about a year when I was 11-12.)
That dress really suits you, sweetie.

ps: I warmly wish you an Excellent New Year’s Eve AND All my best wishes for 2010 Dear Vanessa (Mmmh Actually I am a “self-proclaimed expert ès Soccer’s metaphors” . . . AND think that you can win a match without following an established tactics BUT by relying upon your instinct too) !!!

So I took forever to see your response to my comment about beaver tails!! Eek, yeah Steveston is in Richmond by the fraser river, where there are boats sometimes and you can buy seafood and why not… I thought you were there since there is a location by Steveston that looks just like the scenery you were photographed in; which is quite breath taking during summer evenings.
Anyways blabbering too much! Doesn’t matter where you are, you have such an amazing style. I am epically jealous you got your hands on a Rodarte x Target dress.
And I must try those Beaver tails sometime!
Thanks, it’s so awesome you live in Vancouver. Finally some daring style in a city where most people think the style here only consists of yoga/active wear…

Hello,
I have created a blog a while ago but never felt stylish enough to feature myself. Looking at your blog( that i discovered few days ago via Anywho.dk) just makes me want to go out there and just let it all out, and reading your post above ( believe it or not) just gave me an extra push.
I think that you are very effortlessly stylish and your blog really is inspiring.
Keep posting.

Your blog is wonderful. And it’s so true what you say about not judging life by what you have done in 365 days. I am done with university (UBC ! ) and moved to London. Despite being frustrated about the recession / job market I am glad I have had this time to think and also start a blog.
I am 5’8″ and wish I was 5’10″…hahaha. But that’s life. You are gorgeous and intelligent. Do whatever you want to do in life. No one should be stuck in any box created by society. You only have one life

That was my fave pieces from Rodarte x Target, as well. I agree that the quality is a little wonky, but super-cute design, print, and LOVE the bows in back!! All in all, a great piece and a great price. Kinda wishing I had bought it now… haha
So psyched I found your blog/twitter in 09! Here’s to an amazing 2010!

What an awesome post. I agree that we are pushed to figure out what we are going to do way too early. But you are right that we can change at any time, with some guts and gumption. I’ve heard a saying recently. It goes like this: If you jump off a building, you might crash if you think that you will or you might grow wings if you believe in yourself. You have clearly grown wings and they will take you to great places. Happy New Year!

Hey how did you get into the dress? lol I know I know weird question, but I also have the dress but I’m afraid of ripping off the thread that is keeping the bow taut. Did you just slip it on instead?

Mariah, I tried to respond to your email but it didn’t work.
They are kinda hard to spot at first especially when you’re just slipping into it, but they are there
There are clasps on the bows! You just gotta unclip them

Can I please ask what size you bought this wonderful dress in? I’ve currently got my eye on a 7 on ebay- (sizing is different in Australia) is that anything close to yours?
Many thanks and awesome blog by the way!
