the flip side
when i was fussing with my hair earlier i decided i’d do the one thing i’ve always abhorred: flip OUT the ends. even looking at these pictures makes me feel a little squirmy. I’ve just been ignoring my hair lately. It’s always in a bun. Allocating all my time into salvaging my skin from the unkind conditions of Beijing.
so i bought these shorts off a website called taobao. It’s sorta like ebay but everything is new. There are a bunch of small boutiques that make all their own clothes and are VERY cool. Not only are they cool, but ridiculously cheap. These shorts were a whopping 10 dollars. Possibly less…even with shipping! I’ll be honest. there’s no fashion here in Beijing. like none. nothing that even resembles it. so until recently i’ve been stalking the zaras and H&M’s near me. it’s become an expensive hobby….ahahah but now i have found a very affordable and way cooler alternative!

i cant get over how amazing & striking you always look. i could seriously go save all these photos to my inspiration photo! that sucks about the effects of beijing on your skin, i can imagine all the pollution is pretty bad. but those shorts are amazing so i def have to go check out that store you mentioned. & love love love the biker jacket.x

I love taobao! Its the only access to designer/ local designer pieces for cheap(er). Beijing has more stores than Shanghai! But there are a lot of great boutiques with unique clothing, however the prices are extremely expensive…. it’s just expensive to shop in China, period–luxury tax!

Hey V! Don’t fret about the flipped out hair! It looks hella good. I’m actually thinking of chopping off my hair soon.
Have you tried out the Silk Street Market there in Beijing? If you haven’t, you should give it a try. It’s notorious for selling replica designer items but you can find cool shoes and clothes there if you just to look hard enough.

I”m always looking for great deals on clothes. these shorts are so easy and chic. love how you added the leather jacket.. i still have yet to find one! its been on my list for over a year but i live in a small town (think abercrombie jeans and hollister t shirts) so the shopping isn’t exactly ideal

My Chinese language instructor told me that it’s much much cheaper to take pictures from magazines (or wherever I suppose) to a tailor and have them make it for you. You can choose the quality of fabric, colour, etc. as well. Perhaps this may be a better alternative? Anyways, good luck with the shopping!

Hey! You look awesome in these pictures. When I lived in Hong Kong, my friends with skin problems would use face cream from dermatologists or from the brand Lush to calm down their skin allergies.
Street fashion in Beijing is kind of lacking, but you can get beautiful things like cashmere pants made for nothing, and you can also find sick jewelry in markets. You should totally visit Shanghai, it is China’s fashion capital.
