THE GIRL AT ELM PARK

So on Wednesday when I dragged all my shit out to the park to take photos of myself, I was just expecting another typical (and very laborious) shoot involving focusing my camera and running in front of it <sigh>–I give kudos to bloggers like Zanita who do it with such ease and pzazz. Little did I know, that I was about to be stumbled upon by a real photographer taking photos at the same park. I must say, I’ve been having a helluva good luck lately–first meeting Peter through Craigslist (I may tap that resource again) and then meeting Steven at the park with his dog Fritz. I’m just going to ride this wave people….

Anyways, I love working with different people…I like picking people’s brains and seeing how they work, especially in a creative capacity. I remember once I was watching this epic 4 hour Picasso biography (it documented his flings and muses–yes he was a bit of a lothario back in the day) and it just fascinated me to no end. I think I live vicariously through a lot of my brilliantly gifted artsy friends. I wish I could access that part of my brain…I think my problem is that I’m too ‘in-the-box’. I’ve tried for years to push myself out of it and paint, create, draw, but it’s always resulted in very mediocre results. I’ll keep working on it. I’m gunning for some sort of epiphany :p

I love fall. I think I’ve said that before? It’s cold, but still mild enough to walk around without the necessity of putting on UGGS. Speaking of which. I think I need a new pair. Yes people, I own UGGS. I recognize that they are ugly as shit (I think the name says it all–whether intentional or not) but they are practical…and when you live up here there’s nothing like stepping out into cold with toasty feet. Best. Feeling. Ever.

If anyone knows of a fashionable alternative with equal warming and furry power, please let me know!

  1. the comment about the uggs? i agree COMPLETELY. and as for the getting creative part: go for it girl! i think thats the same with me.. when it just turns out okay, there’s no desire to try and do it again and settle. but i bet you’re artsy and talented enough to figure it out
    and love the outfit!
    xx

you look stunning!!!! i hope i hade a smaler brest to wear that!

  3. BWCHIC says:

love your style ~ I live in michigan, where it is cold. I hate uggs with an unparalleled passion: it seems that every girl in my school (save for myself and a few of my friends) thinks that they’re a beautiful work of genius so are so compelled to wear them 24/7, all seasons, with anything. *sigh*
    ANYway.
When I need warm feet, I just dig out some chunky-but-chic socks and boots/heels, which works pretty well. Now, knowing your style (all rock-glam-amazing, haha), I’m not sure if it’d flow with you, but I’m sure you could figure something out.

Cold times call for desperate measures! I guess I’ll just keep on prowling for super warm boots until I find a pair. it’s funny, when I was in NY and went to Century 21 they had the most hideous ED HARDY over-the-knee uggs featured at the front of the store. There were gaggles of women pawing at them and saying how ‘fun and trendy’ they were. I think those people were out-of-towners because the boots were well…..scary. To say the very least :p

    Miky!
Yeah I used to hate being so flat but I must say as I’ve gotten older my appreciation to go braless and wear a lot of different things has made me feel a lot better!

amazing how u can do the model pose when shot by a random person..
i feel so awkward when taking pictures in such a public place because everybody stares from start to finish wondering who I am. lol
    Love your outfit btw!

  7. Leire says:

You have such an elegant style… I love this (well I love nearly all your outfits but anyway)

And as for UGGS… well, I’ve never owned ones but I’m definitely envious when my feet are cold in winter and I see people walking cozily in them! They are really ugly but when it comes to being warm… who cares ^^

  8. Vanessa says:

    Aw thanks Naira!
UGGS are warm as hell. Everyone in Vancouver has a pair. I think it’s some sort of West coast thing…people wear them even when it’s not that cold yet….

    Hi Aimee!!
It’s funny, I was just looking at your blog a little while ago!
Yeah…it’s weird. I kinda really didn’t like to do it before but now it’s like whatever….
Cuz when I take pictures of MYSELF with a tripod and remote control it’s even more awkward! So when someone else takes them of me…I feel strangely a little more comf :D

Mmmh AND you Truly make such a “GLAM Rock-issime” Fall’s Allegory, with all an authentic Muse’s natural/nonchalant Haughtiness !!! ps: I really like this so caressing play of light AND shadows on your bare legs, its sensual subtlety . . .
ps: Eeeeuuuuuhhh Unfortunately I understand about the climatic conditions BUT Frankly What a pity for this “Fetish Horrors” called “uggs”, a (of course highly relative) insult to your feet’s prettyness !!!

    à Bientôt, Antoine

  11. Antoine says:

ps: OOooh just in case THE “Fashionista” ’s Official Definition is on “stilettosteticoooooooooooooo”, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes !!!!

  12. Vanessa says:

    Antoine,
    Hahaha, that’s funny…’fetish horrors’ I laughed out loud :P

  13. Ashley says:

Hahah I own Uggs too, a couple of pairs actually. It’s so necessary in upstate NY, winter is wayyyy too long and cold and icy to not have them. Let me know if you hear of any slightly less ugg-ly options though!

  14. Vanessa says:

    Ashley,
Yes someone else that admits they have them! I’m happy to know that I’m not alone :) They are like my dirty little secret in the closet. I usually wear them early in the AM to get to the office or in sweats (I’m not recognizable) on the weekend.
That’s the one thing I hate about winter, no practical warm shoes.

  15. Cad says:

In regards to an alternative to Ugg boots…
Which despite living in the hell that is ALBERTA,
I have not succumb to buying…
I hear from a friend that Frye is coming out with a boot
That is lined with Ugg-esque fleeciness on the inside.
I haven’t looked into it much,
But if that’s the truth, they’ve got my name all over them :)

  16. tina_mbc says:

Love your style (as always) and your black and white (or off-white even) combinations are always so chic!!!
I ‘ve yet to try UGGS, but then again I ‘m sure it’s not so cold here in Greece as it is in Canada! Although I do too admit owning a ugg(ly) looking pair that I dig out in the case of a thick layer of snow! :)
But I guess sometimes it’s just about being practical (rarely though)! Lol! :D

  19. this outfit is amazing. I love the purse!

  20. donna says:

Shit girl, I have UGGS too!! I hate it when I read girls bashing UGGS about how unfashionable they are etc. etc. etc. But who gives a damn. I say that you should wear what makes YOU happy. If comfort and warmth are what make you happy then I don’t think anyone has any right to bitch about it. I’m from an area that gets fairly cold during the winters too so it’s pretty amazing to walk out into the nice, crisp air and still feel toasty all over :) I give you kudos girl and I’m glad I’m not the only person out there that thinks that way!!! <3

Yea I normally stay close to the cheap end of the spectrum, but I hadn’t shopped in 2 months and biochem left me in dire need of shopping therapy so I felt the need to get something different ^_^

I have no idea which season this is from since I joined the fashion scene just recently XD But it was seriously love at first sight. The length was what I really loved
